About Me
My name is James Hagerman. I am a 39 year old professional and currently employed as the Director of Architecture for a residential home builder in the United States. I am married and have two sons and consider my family to be everything that’s important in my life.
Where I stand on certain issues:
- Politically, I am a registered Independent but lean right.
- I am, currently, absolutely frustrated with the politics and government of the United States.
- I am a father, a husband, a gun owner, a hunter, a veteran and a sports fan.
- I believe there is a God but don’t believe in organized religion we call “church.”
- I believe in Karma, both good and bad, and think the deeds we do all require a payment at some point in time.
- I believe Jesus had all the powers that the Bible says he did and that anyone of us could exhibit the same if we only knew how to connect with that part of our consciousness.
- I believe Christmas should be about Christ and not commerce.
- I also believe the Bible is probably the most misinterpreted written word, second would be the Constitution of the United States.
- I believe in reincarnation and believe I have been contacted by the spirit of my deceased mother who I will see again in the afterlife.
- I believe in Heaven but don’t believe it is some place high above our heads but rather here on earth, right in front of us.
- I believe children are absolutely perfect when they are born and we screw them up with our limited belief system and our social inadequacies.
- I also believe that the most precious thing we have as Americans is the freedom to speak our mind without persecution which is provided by those willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, our all-volunteer military.
- I have seen the best in people and I have seen the worst.
- I have done things I knew were wrong while hoping no one saw me and I have done things that I knew were right when I knew nobody was looking.
- I believe marriage should remain defined as a union between a man and a woman but that those who wish to should be able to join in a domestic partnership to receive the same social benefits I do.
- I believe life begins at conception and if you have ever seen an ultra-sound of a young fetus I am not sure how you can deny that fact.
- I don’t believe abortion should be used as a form of birth control and that there needs to be a definitive line drawn in the sand that separates “living organism” from “matter” so that the courts can prosecute anyone who terminates a fetus after that point. You can’t have it both ways; a woman can decide to abort a pregnancy late term but a man can be convicted of murder if he harms that same fetus at the same point in the pregnancy.
- I prefer vodka martinis over gin martinis.
- I think $4 for a coffee is ridiculous no matter how good it is.
- I have cried during a movie.
- I think family is more important then anything else.
- I believe in the “eye-for-an-eye” rule and think that if you murder someone you should suffer the same fate in the same manner and it should be shown on Pay-Per-View.
- I think kids should be left to be kids for as long as they can be because life’s worries and stresses can wait.
- I think parents should be parents and not best friends to their kids.
- I think a democracy based on majority rule should be ruled by the majority, not the minority.
- I believe school principals should be able to use corporal punishment (swats) as a disciplinary measure without fear of litigation by the parents.
- I think those who file frivolous lawsuits should be required to pay for the courts time and all those involved should they lose.
- Speaking of lawsuits, I think just because you knew a guy who worked in a building that contained asbestos doesn’t entitle you to “pain and suffering” damages.
- I believe that if one person in a marriage commits adultery, the other should get everything, no questions asked. Otherwise, things should be split 50-50!
- I think English should be the only language we see on road signs and hear on automated menu systems here in the United States.
- I think discrimination happens and should be punished but just because one person of a group is the victim of it doesn’t make all members of that same group eligible for special consideration.
- I think the President of the United States should be required to have served in the military.
- I think there should be term limits for all elected government personnel.
- I think taxes should be paid by everyone who earns an income; a flat rate, no questions, no deductions, no exemptions.
- I think control of the U.S. Congress should be split equally among the political parties with the President providing the tie-breaking vote to provide a more balanced government.
- I think those that serve in Congress should make no more than the lowest paid military member and receive the same health care and retirement benefits.
- I would like to see the President, just once, not pardon the Thanksgiving turkey!
- I believe “In God We Trust” should remain on the money of the Federal Reserve.
- I think students should have to say the Pledge of Allegiance, including the phrase “One Nation Under God” every morning before class starts.
- I think society has totally missed the point of the whole “separation of church and state” statement made by Thomas Jefferson.
- I don’t believe the Constitution is a “living, breathing document.”
- I wish I would have been old enough to see Elvis, the skinny one, in concert before he died.
- I regret wearing some of the clothes I did when I was younger. What were we thinking?
- I am sorry for breaking the hearts of the few girls who didn’t beat me to it.
- I think if you are unhappy in your marriage you should get a divorce BEFORE you find another lover!
- I wish Santa was a real dude but am glad the Easter Bunny isn’t!
- I don’t think you can go from straight to gay back to straight in the same lifetime. Hear me, Anne Heche?
- I think if a university, city, state, or the like receives government funding of any kind that the military should have the right to establish ROTC and recruiting programs on campus or public property without protests by “Code Pink” or whatever other color coordinated group doesn’t agree with it.
I am just me and am a product of my environment, my experiences, and my education. I have an open mind and am willing to listen to any argument against what I may believe. I, in no way, think I have it all figured out.
